Recently Colin Beattie, MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh, welcomed Local Breast Feeding Champion, Aileen Banks, to the Scottish Parliament. After watching First Minister’s Questions in the Debating Chamber, Aileen joined Colin for lunch.
Commenting, Colin said: “I was delighted to welcome Aileen into the Parliament today to recognise her contributions to the Mayfield Breastfeeding Support Group. “Breastfeeding can sometimes be a difficult time for women and the Group provides support in a relaxed and reassuring atmosphere which encourages those attending to share their concerns with other mothers in the same situation. Aileen was a major player in running the Group and her patience and warmth have resulted in it becoming the success it is today.” “I was also delighted to submit a motion to the Parliament celebrating the work of Aileen throughout Mayfield and the whole of Midlothian. The wording for the motion was - That the Parliament thanks Aileen Banks for her work with the Mayfield Breastfeeding Support Group, Breast Pals; recognises her tireless efforts in educating mothers on the importance of proper breastfeeding and raising healthy babies; congratulates her group’s 25-year celebration in 2017; notes that she received a Volunteer Service Award from NHS Lothian that same year, and wishes her the best in pursuing a happy retirement as she continues to volunteer as a breastfeeding peer supporter for NHS Lothian.”
