Colin Beattie MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh marked World AIDS Day on Thursday 1 December.
Alongside his colleagues in the Scottish Parliament, Mr Beattie wore a red ribbon in the Chamber during the Scottish Government’s World AIDS Day debate on Thursday afternoon which symbolises universal awareness and support for people living with HIV. Commenting, Colin Beattie MSP said: “I am pleased to mark World AIDS Day alongside my fellow colleagues and help raise awareness for the cause in Scotland. “It is important we all come together to support the goal of ending AIDS and take note of the World Health Organization’s call to recognise and address the inequalities that are holding back progress, not only in Scotland but across the world. “There has been a decline in HIV diagnosis in recent years in Scotland and I do support the Scottish Government’s aim to ensure there are zero transmissions in Scotland by 2030. “The introduction of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) has played an important role in decline of HIV diagnosis and it is vital we continue to widen the access to PrEP to ensure everyone at risk of acquiring HIV is eligible to be prescribed PrEP. “For anyone who would like support on living with HIV or accessing free HIV testing in Scotland, I would recommend getting in touch with HIV Scotland at https://www.hiv.scot/.”
