£9.914 MILLION FUNDING REACHES MIDLOTHIAN AND £11.059 MILLION FOR EAST LOTHIAN TO TACKLE IMPACT OF COVID-19

EXTRA SNP GOVERNMENT FUNDING TO SUPPORT COUNCIL SERVICES

Midlothian has received an additional £9.914 million and East Lothian has received an additional £11.059 million from the SNP Government to support local services and tackle the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Local authorities will also receive their fair share of a further £184.8 million which is currently undistributed but will be allocated following parliamentary approval.

The extra funding has also been provided to help offset the drop-in revenue that Midlothian and East Lothian Council have lost during the pandemic and brings the overall support package to councils over the COVID-19 pandemic to more than £1 billion.

The new figures come after Scotland’s Finance Secretary, Kate Forbes, announced that businesses, including taxi drivers, travel agents and those working in the hospitality sector, across Scotland will benefit from a new £185 million package of targeted coronavirus support.

Commenting, SNP MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh, Colin Beattie, said:

“The pandemic has put enormous pressure on households, communities and local services right across Scotland, and it’s right that the SNP Government has ensured Midlothian and East Lothian Councils have more funding to deal with this.

“This funding boost is supporting access to food, welfare payments and frontline services, and is just one way the SNP is providing to individuals and businesses to protect jobs and incomes.

“There’s even more cash to come – and if we all stick together, and continue following the rules in the coming months, we will beat this pandemic.”

Hi Mr Beattie the 20th of October 2019 you and your colleagues past a motion through parliament !!
Date lodged 07/11/19 !!! Motion S5M-19793.
I at the time was waiting on my private taxi licence which I received in December. That’s my first year under my belt !!
I was just finding my feet when COVID 19 appeared and my life and my 4 children’s life’s turned upside down as you can well imagine!! As I never had 2 years books as I was a new business I have to rely on universal credit . I appreciate your acknowledgment of you personally basically making me the local hero ! The man I jumped into save from drowning on that day was an ex firefighter and he pulled through , which made my family and friends very proud of me!! I still find it hard to talk about as I thought this man was dying in my arms
The fire brigade turned up and told me ithey couldn’t have got him out of the River Esk without a Risk assessment being worked out then authorised before they could go in to pull the man out!! The main reason for getting in touch with you Mr Beattie after seeing that your going to help small businesses,I’ would love one of your staff or to meet you in person to see if there is any help for my little taxi business for my 4 kids . I can show you what I’ve brought in over last year to the penny, I can show you what I’ve paid out to last penny in black and white!! My 80 year old dad has been paying the rental for wks and wks now hoping things would pick up but unfortunately things are getting worse!!
I have your office number I know you are very busy man but I’m going to send you my number anyway ! 07568 699 596
Would really love to here from you ASAP as this making me physically ill but I’m staying as positive as I can !! Sorry for the novel I’ve wrote or written ! Look forward to hearing from you !! The young lady that was phoning me daily a year ago I’m sure she was an intern maybe I think her name was Mya.
