Hello, and welcome to my website!
My hope is that this site will help me to speak directly with my constituents. I have many concerns regarding my constituency and the communities it encompasses. I am not alone in wanting better for our towns and villages. I hope to hear from constituents about their concerns. I believe that the issues I address will help to better unite us in progressing the ideas that can make living in Midlothian North and Musselburgh better.
Whether you would like to contact me about a constituency problem, a political issue or if you are simply interested in finding out more about the work that an MSP does, I hope you will find this website useful!
Please don't hesitate to contact me at my Constituency Office in Dalkeith on 0131 454 0204 if there is anything else you would like to know more about.

Picture of the week
Though I originally hailed from Forfar, Angus, I have happily adopted Dalkeith as my home. My father was a hospital porter and my mother was the daughter of a crofter. As a young man I decided that traditional banking interested me and this became my career for 23 years. As an international banker I worked in both the Middle and Far East, but eventually found myself back in the UK. After a period of living and working in London, my wife and I decided that we should return to Scotland.
I realised very quickly that the people of Midlothian deserved more than they were getting from local politicians. With this in mind I took early retirement in 2006 to focus on being elected to Midlothian Council. It was been a pleasure to serve the people of Newtongrange, Gorebridge and the Moorfoots as a local councillor.
I was elected to the Scottish Parliament in May 2011 as the representative for Midlothian North and Musselburgh. I believe that Midlothian North and Musselburgh has much to offer and has been underselling itself for years. I plan to work hard to create jobs across my constituency and I will gladly work with any individuals or organisations who will act towards that end. I intend to help build up industry and further promote the possibilities of Midlothian North and Musselburgh.
To take full advantage of the global market I believe Scotland must be free and independent. When we have more control over our country's finances, Midlothian North and Musselburgh will be able to reap the benefits of a well monitored and administered economy. I pledge to do my best for my constituents. I am working for you and I realise the weight of the responsibility you have given me. Thank you for this opportunity to serve.
