The Scottish Government have announced a record £99 million will be invested in Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs) to help thousands of households struggling to meet housing costs.
Commenting Colin Beattie MSP said: "Too many families across Scotland are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and it is unacceptable that families are living in poverty. "Economic mismanagement from successive UK Governments have increased many drivers of poverty including high inflation increasing the costs in our everyday essentials. “The UK Government also continue to impose the bedroom tax which impacts over 100,000 Scot households. The SNP Government chooses to protect vulnerable Scots by paying £74.8 million to ensure Scots are not penalised for having a spare bedroom. "This is why I am pleased to welcome the Scottish Governments continued commitment to support the people of Scotland by delivering record investment of £99 million in 2025-26 to deliver Discretionary Housing Payments to help with these rising costs. Last year 94,000 households in Scotland were supported by this payment and it is important we offer support to those who need it most." ENDS
