FIRST HOMES FUND A "GAME CHANGER" FOR LOCAL FIRST TIME BUYERS SAYS LOCAL MSP

The first round of applications for the SNPs first time buyers' scheme, which will support them with up to £10,000 towards a deposit, will open by the end of June.

The new First Homes Fund will be open to all prospective owners looking to make their first step on to the property ladder, with a value limit of £300,000 on the property purchased.

It is expected the first phase of the fund will support 2,000 households over the first 100 days of the new SNP Government and 50,000 by the end of this Parliamentary term.

Commenting, local MSP Colin Beattie said:

“Too many people across  Midlothian North, especially younger people, are struggling to buy their first home. People are saving where they can, but struggling to save enough for a deposit.

“That’s exactly why we are getting on with delivering this landmark policy that will support people get on the property ladder with up to £10,000 towards a deposit.

"During the election we said we would support first time buyers, and now we are delivering – that’s what you get from John Swinney’s trusted and reliable leadership that is firmly on Scotland’s side.

"I would encourage everyone eligible for this support to apply when applications open in June."

Midlothian North MSP Requests Walk-In GP Centre for Community

Colin Beattie MSP for Midlothian North's first action since being re-elected was to formally request a walk-in GP centre for his constituents.

Commenting SNP MSP Colin Beattie said:

"Throughout the campaign period, improving GP access was consistently raised. The public are excited by the idea of the SNPs policy to end the 8am rush by expanding the walk-in GP trial.

"Existing services in Midlothian are already under pressure and with Midlothian being the fastest growing local authority in Scotland this must be exacerbated.

"I believe this should make Midlothian North a priority location for a walk-in GP centre

"As the constituency’s representative at the Scottish Parliament I have written to the Scottish Government requesting that a new walk-in centre is opened in Midlothian North as soon as possible."
